Our restoration team are embarking on a project to revamp the interior of our historic Comet 4 back to how it looked in its BOAC days when it flew the first ever scheduled jet service across the Atlantic from New York to London in 1958. Research has shown the forward cabin was allotted 24 first class recliner seats which featured a pop-up foot rest and greater seat recline to form almost a flat bed. These seats were pitched at a generous 60 inches apart and arranged in pairs each side of the cabin. We would like to recreate seating along these lines. Obviously, there are no genuine BOAC Comet seats still around, at least not a set of 24, therefore we are asking for your help to locate a more modern suitable seat, a pair of which must not be more than 110 cm wide. We are trying the major UK aircraft salvage companies but if there are any other suggestions you think may be helpful, please contact our office Tues-Thurs on 01223 836593.
